LearnLT — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-12

LearnLT (“the app”, “we”) is a Lithuanian-language learning app published on Google Play and the Apple App Store under the package com.learnlt.app. This page explains, in plain language, what data the app collects and what it does with it.

If anything here is unclear, email [email protected].

Short version

1. Who we are

The data controller is the individual developer of LearnLT, contactable at [email protected]. The app is an indie product; there is no incorporated company behind it at the time of writing.

2. Data we collect and store

2.1 On-device data (never leaves your phone unless noted)

When you use LearnLT, the following is written to your phone’s local storage (Hive database, located in the app’s private sandbox):

This data is private to the app on your device. It is never transmitted to any server we control. We do not own or operate any backend infrastructure.

When you uninstall LearnLT, Android / iOS deletes this data automatically. You can also reset it from inside the app via Profile → Reset all progress.

2.2 Microphone access (Speak mode only)

LearnLT requests the Android RECORD_AUDIO permission and the iOS NSMicrophoneUsageDescription only for the Speak — say it aloud learning mode.

Here is exactly what happens when you use it:

  1. You tap the mic icon on a Speak prompt.
  2. The app starts a recognition session via the operating system’s built-in speech recognition service (speech_to_text Flutter package; underlying APIs: android.speech.RecognitionService on Android, Speech.framework on iOS).
  3. Your spoken phrase is processed by that system service to produce a transcript.
  4. The transcript is compared against the expected Lithuanian word inside the app. You see a green-tick or red-cross.
  5. The audio data and the transcript are discarded as soon as the comparison is done.

We do not record audio to disk, we do not upload it, we do not send it anywhere. On modern Android phones the speech recognition runs entirely on-device; on older Androids it may use Google’s online speech recognition — that is a Google service governed by Google’s privacy policy, not ours, and only that one phrase is transmitted.

If you don’t want to grant the microphone permission, simply skip the Speak mode — the other five learning modes and three games work without it.

2.3 Microphone access on iOS — App Tracking Transparency

iOS also asks for App Tracking Transparency consent. This is not about the microphone; it controls whether your device’s IDFA (advertising identifier) is shared with Google AdMob for personalised ads. You can decline; LearnLT continues to work, ads simply become non-personalised.

2.4 Advertising ID and ads (Google AdMob)

LearnLT integrates the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob). When you view a banner ad, AdMob may collect:

This data flows to Google, not to LearnLT’s developer. We have no access to it. AdMob uses it to choose which ad to show and to count impressions for billing.

You can reset or opt out of personalised ads at any time:

AdMob’s own privacy notice: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads

2.5 Subscriptions (Google Play Billing / Apple App Store)

If you subscribe to LearnLT Premium (the “Hide ads” subscription), the purchase is processed by Google Play Billing (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS). LearnLT receives:

We do not receive your payment method, billing address, name, or any other personal information from the store. Billing is fully managed by the store; cancel anytime from your Google Play or App Store subscriptions screen.

2.6 Picture Quiz network requests

In the Picture Quiz mode, image thumbnails are fetched on demand from Wikimedia Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:FilePath/…). Wikimedia sees your IP address and the requested image file — same as visiting Wikipedia in your browser. We do not log these requests; Wikimedia’s own policy applies: https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy

If you don’t want to make these requests, simply skip the Picture Quiz mode.

4. Children’s privacy

LearnLT’s target audience is 13 years and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

If you believe a child under 13 has used LearnLT and that personal data may have ended up with our advertising partners, email [email protected] and we will help you take steps to delete it.

5. Your rights (GDPR / similar)

Because LearnLT stores all your learning data locally on your device and does not maintain a server-side user profile, the practical exercise of GDPR rights is simple:

For the small amount of data Google AdMob may process based on your use of LearnLT, exercise your rights directly through Google.

6. Data security

7. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially — for example, adding analytics or a server-side feature — we will update the Last updated date above and surface a banner in the app on next launch. Continued use after such a change counts as consent.
